Kai fell asleep in the stroller waiting to go through security
Do you ever think that your child is the greatest child EVER!? Well, this is how I felt after our flight from SLC to Honolulu.
Kai had never been on an airplane, and this was something that we knew we had to overcome, yet dreaded doing. He couldn't even last 10 minutes sitting on my lap in church, so how on earth was he going to last on an 6 hour plane ride!? On top of all of this, Jason was on crutches and needed to be on an wheelchair throughout the airport...which left me to take care of our luggage and Kai.
The only thing I could do was pray and hope for the best (and by "best", I mean not getting kicked off the plane for creating a scene!)
We had a 2 hour plane ride, a 1 hour layover, and 6 hour flight until our destination. I packed everything Kai could possibly want (snacks, Umizoomi, books, etc.) and we set off for one of our biggest challenges with Kai yet. The flight from SLC to LAX went well because Brandon and Chas came with us to help! They were life savers! But, they had to leave us in LAX and it was so hard without them because Jason just left all the carry-on items, Kai, and the stroller to me while he got pushed through the airport. He didn't even slow down a bit to wait for me!!! and on top of this, the flight to Honolulu from LAX was delayed 6 hours!!! (which actually turned out to be a huge blessing because the SLC flight was late and it took us too long to get to the gate). What on earth were we going to do for 6 hours with Kai!? But, he was a trooper! 1st, he fell asleep on the way to our gate, but didn't even cry when I woke him up through security. Then, he just played, laid down on the ground (which was gross, but I just tried to play cool because fighting with him could have resulted in chaos) and watched DVDs for 6 hours while we waited for our flight to Honolulu. and finally, he slept the WHOLE WAY from LAX to Honolulu. All I had to do was give him a bottle of milk and just give him his pacifier and blankie. He didn't even poop on the plane!!!! I just wanted to hug him and kiss him!!!
What I thought would be one of my most stressful events ever turned out to be one of my most happiest times with Kai. I was able to hold my baby while he slept in my arms for 6 hours. If that's not heaven, I don't know what is.
I was the proudest mommy ever!
