shark bait ooh ah ah

Kai after a bath with his Shark robe from Aunty Ashley. Jason always says "Shark Bate ooh Ah Ah" (from the movie Nemo) every time we put it on him. It's funny (but maybe you have to be there?). Kai LOVES taking a bath so it's a great way for us to spend time together. Jason and I just watch him splish and splash!

a million dollar smile

Look at that smile!

Pancake

We tried giving Kai Pancake for the very first time. It's Jason's favorite so I though Kai would like it too...Boy was I wrong. I put a small little piece into his mouth and he started gagging. He's just like Jason when it comes to food...very very picky and a poor sport at trying new things. Good thing we took the picture before we fed Kai! (The first picture is of Kai hiding to avoid the flash from the camera!)

What a mess!!!!

Kai's just like his daddy when it comes to making a mess! I came home the other day to find Kai in all of this mess. He had taken out all of his toys and had started working on pulling out all the tissues in the Kleenex box...where was Jason in all of this? 3 feet away on the sofa watching TV...although he claims he was watching Kai the whole time....then why on earth did he not stop Kai? I personally think ESPN had something to do with it!

Ugly Pacifier

Kai is teething like crazy lately and has been relying a lot on his pacifier to make him feel better. We went shopping the other day and realized we forgot his pacifier at home! Rather than going back to get it, we stopped by the store to buy one. Jason ran in to get it and to my surprise, he came back with this UGLY one! It's even shaped weird and poor Kai doesn't know which way is up or down. He kept turning it around and around, but finally, decided he liked it best upside down. So now, not only is the pacifier ugly, but Kai uses it upside down! (thanks a lot Jason!) I just laugh every time I see Kai use it.

all cheeks

I just love these cheeks! They are so fun to kiss and pinch. I hope Kai NEVER loses them!!!

Kai's tail

Kai's hair always had this cute little tail. He had it since he was born and it just keeps getting longer and longer. Now that his hair has grown out, it's harder to see it, but it's still longer than the rest of his hair in the back. I love playing with it. There's a little saying in Japan where if your boy has this "tail", the second child will be a girl. So far, it's been the case for my Japanese friends, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see if this superstition comes true for our 2nd baby. (just to be clear, I'm not pregnant yet!)

Cry Baby Kai

We went to Corrine and Jeong's house to celebrate Ella's 2nd birthday. Their whole family was there and it was so fun to see everyone. I was most excited for Kai because Jeong's siblings have kids Kai's age. Well, Kai was "sharing" a toy with Tessa who's 11 months. They were playing next to each other when Tessa Screamed really loud. This totally surprised Kai, he looked around all startled and wide eyed, and then just started crying. The only thing that made him stop crying was the balloon. Who would have ever thought that the person to make Kai cry for the first time would be a little girl!
Once Kai calmed down, we went exploring and found this awesome toy! it's in the shape of a school bus and lots of little things for Kai to play with. I would so have loved to get one for Kai but it was from Costco 2 years ago...bummer!
Later on, all the kids put on their birthday hats to sing Happy Birthday and eat Cake...Doesn't Kai look so excited!? (party pooper!)

bed hair!

Kai woke up from his nap and he had the worst bed hair. I couldn't help but take a picture!

zzz

Kai fell asleep in the car and he was conked out. I looked closer and noticed that he even had slobber running off of his face! LOL. If you look close at his Right cheek, you can see the slobber almost dripping off of his cheek!

Say ahh

Kai was eating his favorite snack...star puffs...when Grandpa opened his mouth and said "ahh". Kai then grabbed a puff and just when we thought he was going to give Grandpa a bite, he stuck it in his own mouth! Grandpa kept trying and trying, and in the end, he finally got a piece!

What so interesting?

We put on Baby Einstein for Kai and he found it very entertaining. He first started out on the sofa with Tutu, but he kept leaning off the sofa towards the tv so we put him on the floor. I put him far enough away from the tv so that it wouldn't hurt his eyes, but he kept getting closer and closer and finally ended up right in front of the tv. I'm not sure what, but something was very interesting for Kai.

doors!

Kai was playing around in my bedroom and came across the bedroom door. He was so excited and he flung it open. He tried to close it, but there was one problem...Kai! He was sitting right in front of the door so he kept closing it on himself. He did this over and over. he'd fling it open and close it on himself..always trying to close it past him but he kept getting in the way! I could have watched him all day!

A New Discovery

Kai found the washing machine and boy was he amused. He just stood in front of the machine and watched it twirl over and over. of course, he left his signature mouth slobber on the glass door too...thanks Kai! I wonder what he was thinking as he watched the machine do it's magic. I mean, it must just be mind boggling for him to try and figure out what it's doing. I always forget that what's so normal to me are all new to him. He just finds so many simple things amusing...I love it! It's so fun to see the world from Kai's pure and innocent eyes. He stood in front of it for a good 10 minutes...so I ran downstairs to get the camera. Of course, as soon as he heard the flash, he came crawling my way!

Caught red handed!!!

Here's another example of when kids being quiet equals DANGER. Kai was playing nicely by himself with his toys, when all of a sudden I couldn't hear all the songs and clicking from his toys. I peek over and find him digging through our garbage!!!! gross!!! So why didn't I just run over and take it away? Well, the damage was already done so I thought I'd take a few picture for the blog! (I know, isn't that awful?). But, I do want to point out that Jason and I do tell him NO. But our lovely STUBBORN first born...the pride and Joy of our life, will NOT listen. You will not believe how many times I've told him NO only to have him keep doing it. For example, I told him NO when he first touched our garbage can. He then reached right back and started playing with it again. I then reached over, grabbed his hands and said "NO". Well, what does my lovely boy do next? he grunts, gives me stink eye, reaches over to the garbage can and dumps it on the ground! Now, who can't tell me that this is COMPLETELY intentional!? It was as if he was saying "OH yeah? I'll show you to not tell me NO!". Although this is frustrating at times, I love this about Kai. He's so little, yet he's so strong willed. I think my job as a mom is going to be to make sure that he goes after and feels strongly about the good things of life. I'm going to try so Kai: Please take it easy on mommy!

All of Church!

Last Sunday, (1/3/2010) I was able to go to all 3 hours of church!!! I was sooooo proud of Kai. Our church used to meet at 9am and Kai's normal nap time was 9:30am so you can imagine how grumpy Kai was by the time Sacrament Meeting was over. But now, our church is at 1pm so it is easier for Kai to stay up (afternoon naps are not as crucial for him)(also, you will not believe how many more people showed up to church when it was at 1pm...it's like the numbers tripled!! I guess they weren't morning people). The day was going really well and Kai was really good during Sacrament, so Jason and I thought "hey, we can try Sunday School". Then, he did superduper well in Sunday School so I thought I'd give Relief Society a try and what do you know! Kai did it! In Sunday School, he kept smiling and laughing at the people sitting behind me and Jason...the more he smiled, the more they paid attention to him...and Kai loved all the attention he was getting! In Relief Society, the Sister next to me was sooo sweet. Her name is Heather and She was helping me throughout Relief Society. Kai grabbed her watch so she gave it to him to play...he then grabbed her bracelet, and she gave that to him too! Kai would throw things on the ground and she'd help me pick it up...and she's Pregnant!!! so I know it wasn't easy for her to keep reaching down. (FYI: I dont just let Kai grab people's things...and I don't expect pregnant women to pickup Kai's torys...but in my defense, I had Kai on my lap with books, paper, snacks all over the place which made it quite difficult to also keep Kai's hands under control!). So, with the help of Heather and all the other Sisters around me, I was able to stay all 3 hours of church. I was sooo happy!!! I was so proud of Kai that I couldn't help but have Jason take a picture when we got home!

the magical pantry

I'm not sure what it is, but kids (babies and toddlers) LOVE going into my mom and dad's pantry. Kai's cousin, Truly, also loves playing in there. I wasn't aware of this until one day, I was working on my computer at my mom's house and Kai was very quiet. All Moms know that's the first sign of DANGER! I looked around and I finally found him the pantry looking at all the cans, pouches, and boxes. He stayed in there and played for a good 20 minutes...which in Kai Time is like 3 hours!!! Now, every time I go over there, he always makes a run for the pantry. Who needs toys when you have a pantry! Who would have guessed!

Mr. Independent

Kai has always wanted to do things by himself. He's so independent. It's one of those bitter sweet things for me since I'm so happy he's developing his motor skills but at the same time it makes me sad to think he's growing up. It's so funny...before I had Kai I used to hate guys who were a "mama's boy". But now with Kai, it doesn't bother me one bit! Jason always says "you're babying him and he needs to be a tough boy!" But you know what? I don't care!!! He can be the biggest mama's boy and that would be JUST FINE with me! Kids really do change your perspective on life!
Kai LOVES to feed himself cheerios and star puffs, but the other day, he just wouldn't stop reaching for the spoon I was using to feed him his oatmeal. Finally, I let him hold it as I guided it into his mouth and you wouldn't believe the big SMILE on his face. It was glowing with pride and this was an "I did it!" moment for him. I've seen him do this couple of times...when he stood up for the first time, when he caught a ball for the first time, etc. It is such a cute look! For a smile like this, I would almost let him do anything! He was just so happy that he finally was able to hold onto the spoon...Of course, he's not yet ready to do it by himself because if he did, he would be wearing more food than what actually goes into his mouth, but I know he'll keep on trying...Keep up the good work Kai...but don't grow up too fast on me!

grrrr

Ever since I had Kai, I am a firm believer that kids come pre-wired. He is so stubborn and knows exactly what he wants and doesn't want. I know I shouldn't laugh, but when Kai doesn't like something, he grunts and he just keeps grunting until it's fixed. Here's a funny video that Naomi took of Kai pushing his car, getting it stuck, and grunting! You can see first hand how "angry" Kai can get!

Ode to Joy!

This outfit is for Aunty Joy. I saw it and knew I had to get it. Kai hated the hat but I had to make him wear it at least once before he grew out of it. His head keeps getting bigger so fast. I'm sure it'll be no time before it no longer fits. When Kai was born, his head was in the 19%...then at the next checkup he was 25%...then 50%...then 75%...and now 90%!!! His head just keeps getting bigger and bigger...just like Daddy. We now need the rest of his body to catch up!

which hand?

It was so nice having Joely, Erika, Hunter, Lori, and Annika visit for Christmas. It'd been along time since so many of us were together so it was nice to spend time together. It was fun to be able to introduce Kai to everyone. Hunter was such a champ the whole time he was here. You'd think that boys his age would just be into video games or tv, but he played so much with Kai and Kai loved him. One of the cutest games they played was "which hand?". Hunter would put the toy golf ball (which Kai got from Nana and Grandpa Scott) in one of his hands and have Kai guess which hand the ball was in. The cool thing was, Kai kept guessing it right each time! He'd always tap on the hand with the golf ball in it! We laughed and were amazed at the same time!

Presents Presents and More Presents

Kai had lots and lots and LOTS of presents at Nana's Christmas this year. In fact, when we all took turns opening presents, Kai's turns lasted much longer than all the rest of us. Here's Kai closely inspecting his presents and again, mistaking that the fun is inside rather than the outer boxes!

mmm....cold door?

I'm not sure what it is, but Kai LOVES licking windows. Whenever he sees a glass door, he crawls 100 mph and starts licking it! Maybe he likes the cold glass against his tongue? Not only does this leave finger marks and smudge all over the glass, but I'm sure it's not the cleanest thing for him to be doing. Jason and I always try and stop him, but he just keeps going back for more.

Santa Clause likes sports?

Santa Clause brought Kai a stocking full of...Balls! I think Santa (aka Grandpa) wants Kai to really play sports! Well, no worries Santa because Kai loves hitting, kicking, licking, and biting the balls. It'll be no time before he's playing catch!
