Happy New Year!?

We tried ("tried" being the key word) to put on the Happy New year hat to celebrate New Year's Eve with Kai...I think the picture speaks for itself on how that went.

We went sledding with Jonah, Taddy and Truly, but after awhile, the little ones got tired. They were just as happy hanging out inside watching Max and Ruby from the computer, sharing and eating their teddy grams together. What a precious site!

Kai's tractor

We got Kai this HUGE tractor for Christmas....He figured out that he could fit in it and it was just the right size. Couple of times he would get stuck and needed help getting out!

toys in the stocking!

Kai got a puzzle from Santa in his Stocking. He LOVED the truck puzzle and figured out how to put all the pieces in. At first, I thought he would have a hard time figuring out which pieces went where, but after 1 week, he could practically do it with his eyes closed! After a while, he would put wrong pieces in on purpose...maybe he wanted to make it interesting. (December 2010)

Christmas 2010

Kai in front of Nana's Christmas Tree. He wouldn't cooperate to take a nice picture...so this is the best we got.

choo choo!

Kai got a lot of toys for Christmas, but one of the things that got most of his attention was the train around the Christmas Tree. He just kept looking at it go around and around the tree. He would try lying down, standing up, look at it from every possible direction. The only problem was the he would keep touching it so it would go off the tracks...then he'd come and make pull our arm to the train until we fixed it. If he's interested, he can never leave it alone!

Cookies for Santa

Nana bought us special plates to leave our cookies for Santa. We got some cookies and milk and left it out together. I don't think Kai fully understood what we were doing, but I know Santa will enjoy it!

Christmas #2

It was Kai's 2nd Christmas...and I think he understood what was going on a little bit more this time. He sure liked playing with the new toys! His new interests were trains and cars and he got a lot of them. He also got a snow suit so he can play out in the snow (although he didn't like wearing it too much!). It was so fun having the cousins there to play with. (Christmas 2010)

It's Santa!!

Kai was sooo afraid of Santa last year that he was screaming the whole time...What a difference 1 year makes! Or is it because he could tell who Santa was this year? After he sat on Santa's lap and Santa left, Kai followed Santa yelling "bye Cott!" I guess he could tell that it was good ol' Grandpa Scott that was playing Santa this year. Well, even Santa couldn't keep the little one's attention for long. As soon as they got their presents, the 2 little ones went straight to playing with their toys. I don't think Kai was ready to start sharing with others.

Little did we know...

This was the day that Jason fell on Grandma's porch and reopened his surgery wound. Little did we know that it would turn into an infection that would cause him to go through 2 more surgeries!!! But doesn't the dad and son combo look so cute in red?
(December 2010)

wants yours is mine and whats mine is mine

Grandma Tomisato had this miniature piano in her living room that Kai would play everytime we would go over. It sure beat him going around and knocking over all of the pictures Grandma had all around her house and on her shelves.
Kai LOVES cars...and of the cars, he sure knows how to detect his School Buses. Every time we are on the road, he'd see a bus and yell "chool bus"! "ellow"!. Well, Grandpa Walker and Grandma Carol had many buses for Kai to play with and he played with them over and over. He kept sliding the bus over the couch and I thought he would break the floor or the bus! Luckily, I believe we were able to leave the house with no broken items....miracle!
Grandma Tomisato has her special seat...at least it was her seat until Kai came along. He went ahead and claimed her seat as his as soon as he saw the seat available. He doesn't quite understand that not everything is his to take anytime he wants! But he sure did love this chair...it was just the right size.

One Big Family Part II

Kai's first trip to Hawaii was great. we loved visiting all of our family and wish we could visit more often! (December 2010)

Shopping Together

Shopping together in Hawaii and everyone helping! This is really the only way to keep Kai under control while shopping. He either has to be in the cart or be out helping push. If he's not pushing, he is running down every aisle pushing down all the items on the shelves! (December 2010)

Risky Business

After Grandma Walker's funeral, Kai was soooo tired that he just fell asleep in the car. I didn't want to wake him by taking his shirt off, so I just managed to take off his pants and let him sleep in his church shirt. Well, when he woke up, who did he resemble? The famous Tom Cruise in Risky Business! I personally think Kai is cuter though!

A day at the airport

waiting for the flight to Honolulu
Kai getting sleepy before the flight
Playing around at the gate
Kai fell asleep in the stroller waiting to go through security

Do you ever think that your child is the greatest child EVER!? Well, this is how I felt after our flight from SLC to Honolulu.
Kai had never been on an airplane, and this was something that we knew we had to overcome, yet dreaded doing. He couldn't even last 10 minutes sitting on my lap in church, so how on earth was he going to last on an 6 hour plane ride!? On top of all of this, Jason was on crutches and needed to be on an wheelchair throughout the airport...which left me to take care of our luggage and Kai.
The only thing I could do was pray and hope for the best (and by "best", I mean not getting kicked off the plane for creating a scene!)
We had a 2 hour plane ride, a 1 hour layover, and 6 hour flight until our destination. I packed everything Kai could possibly want (snacks, Umizoomi, books, etc.) and we set off for one of our biggest challenges with Kai yet. The flight from SLC to LAX went well because Brandon and Chas came with us to help! They were life savers! But, they had to leave us in LAX and it was so hard without them because Jason just left all the carry-on items, Kai, and the stroller to me while he got pushed through the airport. He didn't even slow down a bit to wait for me!!! and on top of this, the flight to Honolulu from LAX was delayed 6 hours!!! (which actually turned out to be a huge blessing because the SLC flight was late and it took us too long to get to the gate). What on earth were we going to do for 6 hours with Kai!? But, he was a trooper! 1st, he fell asleep on the way to our gate, but didn't even cry when I woke him up through security. Then, he just played, laid down on the ground (which was gross, but I just tried to play cool because fighting with him could have resulted in chaos) and watched DVDs for 6 hours while we waited for our flight to Honolulu. and finally, he slept the WHOLE WAY from LAX to Honolulu. All I had to do was give him a bottle of milk and just give him his pacifier and blankie. He didn't even poop on the plane!!!! I just wanted to hug him and kiss him!!!
What I thought would be one of my most stressful events ever turned out to be one of my most happiest times with Kai. I was able to hold my baby while he slept in my arms for 6 hours. If that's not heaven, I don't know what is.
I was the proudest mommy ever!

one big happy family

Jason grew up with his cousins and always had fun, wonderful memories of spending time with them. We wanted Kai to have the same experience, and it was so nice to have Kai meet the rest of his cousins and family in Hawaii. There's nothing like family and it was so great to see Kai be surrounded by people that care about and love him. Jacob and Cale were so good with him! Sweet Sydnee wanted to carry him around like a baby, but I think he was too big. She was so frustrated that Kai wouldn't play with her as much as she would have liked. He kept being a cry baby so she asked me "when is Kai going to get bigger so he stops crying?". Hopefully when we go next time, Kai will be a better sport. Here are the kids all hanging out together!

Gingerbread Train

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Nov 29 2010 - When it's quiet, it's either a very BAD moment or a very CUTE moment. this time, it was a cute moment! I was getting ready and Kai was being very quiet. I peeked around the corner and found him sitting in front of the mirror brushing his hair. My sweet baby boy was copying his mommy!

Kai needs his privacy

Nov 29 2010 - Kai needs his privacy when he is going #2! He usually goes into a corner and grunts until his all finished. He normally does not want anyone around when he's taking care of business!
Kai's not potty trained yet, but he sure knows when he has to go number 2! I was in the family room playing with Kai when all of a sudden, he makes a run for it towards the living room. I went to see what he was doing and he went to his "corner" where he always does his deed! I'm sure he didn't appreciate it but I couldn't help myself and took a picture.

Choo Choo around the tree

Nov 28 2011 - Kai loves the train that goes around our christmas tree. He can just stare at it and watch it go round and round. At first, he was afraid of it and would only stare at it from afar, but he got more and more used to it and now he's able to get up close. I was in the kitchen and noticed that Kai wasn't around...in fact, it was quiet! I ran into the living and room found him intensely playing with the train. He kept putting it on and off the track. He was so precious that I had to take a picture.

Glimpse of Santa #2

Nov 28 2010 - I absolutely love this photographer~ Jennifer Eliason. She always does this Glimpse of Santa photo shoot where Santa is someone that the baby knows (dad, mom, etc.). That's why you don't see santa's face in the photos. If too much of the face shows on the photo, we just crop the picture so that the face gets cut off. Proceeds go to a family in need (normally a family with a child with health issues or disabilities) so I love to participate! This was our second time shooting Glimpse of Santa but of course, it was much harder this year than last year. Last year, Kai was at that age where if I just called his name, he would look my direction and smile! This year, Kai was at the age where I would call his name and he would ignore me. Not only that, he would run around Santa and always run off the photo shoot! My solution? - Yogurt! We tempted Kai with yogurt so it looks like Kai's looking up at Santa, but if you look close, you can see that Santa is holding up a spoon with yogurt on it! Now, as anyone can see from the photos, Jason is not Santa. Why? Because he tore his Achilles the day before and was in surgery during this photo shoot. So, Grandpa came to the rescue! I was so afraid that we wouldn't get any good photos since Kai was just all over the place, but Jennifer came through as always and took some FUN pictures. Of course, we also got some blooper pictures too, but those are also funny and worth keeping!
